Generosity vs Self-interest

Well, I have a friend who is always putting himself in other's shoes. He can sacrifice himself just to satisfy others. Even though he regrets all the times but he is still doing it again and again. I have taught him some ways to avoid all these but he seems like doesn't practise them.

I watched new drama last night, 《缺宅男女》. I found that the male protagonist was just the same type as my friend. However, what he did was more worthy in the sense that that was for his family. In my friend's case, others just take advantage from him, as time passes, they tend to take thing for granted from him. We all sympathise him.

I don't mean not to help people but within your own capability. Sometimes, you have to be self-interest and think for yourself. Being generous just limited to certain degree where both parties can be benefited but not benefiting others while harming yourself.

People take things for granted is a norms now, we should know how to protect ourselves. Sometimes, letting people taking advantage on us is a way of survival but we should think of resolutions to avoid it next time. I hope he really learns that because he doesn't know how to protect himself. I always doubt his origin. He seems like not born in Kuala Lumpur where almost everyone is self-interest!

If people do appreciate his effort and sacrifice, then it's fine but I don't think this is the case. Therefore, he really needs to voice out and be determined to say 'No' instead of being 'Mr Yes' all the times.
