Interviews

Yo, I attended quite a number of interviews these two months. Unfortunately, I still can't find a job which is of my interest. There is one which interests me but there is quite a lot of challenges or obstacles ahead.

I have been scheduled to meet most of the executive levels. I had my first interview with the manager on Tuesday and I was so lucky to be shortlisted to meet their executive director on Friday. The director was an American. Basically, they want to test on my spoken English and my ability to use English to communicate with foreigners since this is a multinational company based in United States.

The director was so nice and I believed that we had a fun conversation. The manager called me in the afternoon to give me some feedback. She told me that the director was so impressed on my ability and initiative to express myself. He told me that his subordinates in Malaysia were so 'humble' or not confident enough, according to him, to speak. They tended to hide themselves.

Unfortunately, he hoped I can improve my English further on my pronunciation and grammar. Well, since he is an American, maybe he can't recognise my British pronunciation. Anyway, I thought he understood what I tried to convey to him. In my opinion, no matter what slang do we use, as long as the speakers know each other's contents and messages in a colloquy, that is an effective communication. It's okay, I would try to improve myself but please give me some time.

I would meet their second executive director on next Tuesday. According to the name of the interviewer given, I believe that he is a Chinese, hopefully he can understand my slang then. What's more challenging will be the tele-interview on next Thursday. She will be interviewing me through phone call. She is an American and I hope that I won't repeat the mistakes. After all, the foreigners are so nice and easy to talk or mix with.

Let's hope for the best and I believe that everything will be just fine and sound.
