Scenes of Clerical Life

Well, well, well, I had just finished this novel today.

This novel was written by George Eliot, who was a female author. Yes, you don't see wrongly, the author was a female. There were three stories altogether in this novel, talking about religious issues regarding Evangelicalism and Christianity via designated characters based on the author's observation and experience.

If you've not forgotten, I bought this novel together with 'The Keys of Hell' seven years ago. This novel was 431 pages in total and it tested my patience initially as there were lots of the author's backgrounds at the beginning of the book. Frankly speaking, I almost quitted reading it.

Therefore, what is my preference between the 'Scenes of Clerical Life' and 'The Keys of Hell'? I prefer the latter one. Even though the stories in the 'Scenes of Clerical Life' were more touching and melancholic but the plot of 'The Keys of Hell' was more entertaining. Besides, it used quite a lot of old English words which I couldn't search for meanings in my dictionary because the first story was produced in 1857.

Overall, it's quite an accomplishment to complete this novel within one month. I think, these two novels would be my last novels as I don't think I would buy any by-and-by. I look forward to chatting with you guys soon and we shall see what's coming up next. Stay tuned.
