Consumer's Right 2

Hey guys, I believe that you still remember what I wrote in 'Consumer's Right' at the end of June. Well, I want to update something regarding Astro here.

Last Friday, my dad showed me the Astro's bill. There were two additional transactions, namely 'High Definition Service' both with payments of RM10 and RM20 respectively for different periods (within the month). I was so frustrated because there was additional payment of RM10 which was different from what the telemarketing's staff told me.

I called to Astro at once. A Malay girl answered my call. First off, I asked her what the payments were about. She told me that they were the payments which entitled me enjoying the HD channels. She assured me that I had to pay for the service monthly. She further explained that the decoder has life-time warranty and the one year period was the contract expiry. I was strongly agitated.

I told her what the telemarketing's Indian girl proposed to me and I hoped that she could help me out. Unfortunately, she didn't want to give any cooperation and insisted that I had to pay for the service monthly until the expiration of the contract, which was 1 year. I couldn't accept and this pissed me off.

I began to raise my tone to indicate that I was fed up. I told her that I couldn't accept the contract and I was willing to surrender the decoder back to Astro. Nonetheless, she was adamant. I was left with no options, hence I told her that I knew laws and I studied laws in college. I urged her not to deceiving me with contract terms because indeed, I studied Contracts Act under Business Law in TARc. I knew that the contract was void and couldn't take effect as what I agreed was different from what she told me.

Unsurprisingly, she still wanted to beat me with the contract. I went mad and asked her whom Astro would put priority to between customer and telemarketing's staff. Luckily she said 'customer'. Then I started to control the situation by telling her that I would like them to forget about the contract since I was the victim and give them two options. Since I knew that I was innocent, I wouldn't let them decide my destiny, infact I was the one who in charge.

I asked her to convey my message to her manager, supervisor or whoever in charge:" I'm happy that Astro put customer at first place and trust in 'customer is always right' concept. I'm not going to trouble you as well but I must protect my own right. Now, I give you two options. Either Astro forfeit my so-called Astro Beyond contract or I'll terminate the Astro service at once! For the former one, I don't mind if you would like to replace my Astro Beyond's decoder with my previous one but I'll complain about the malfunction of the previous decoder. Since I had enjoyed the HD channels, I would pay the RM30 as stated in this bill but no others. If Astro would like to continue the HD service for me in the following months, I don't mind watching the channels but I won't pay even a single cent for the service,"

"I'm not doing nothing at home and like to complain Astro for fun or regret on my contract. You see, there were three mistakes altogether with what you told me and what the telemarketing's staff told me. Firstly, you said I have to pay monthly for the service but she said it was just a one-time payment. Secondly, you said the total service charge is RM30 per month but what she told me was RM20. Lastly, you said the decoder has life-time warranty and the one year period is the contract expiry but she told me the decoder has one year warranty. Since all of these mistakes, I have the reasons not to admit the contract! Thus, these're the two options available to you now and please convey them to your manager or ask your manager talks to me now!" I continued.

She asked me to hold on and did that immediately. Few minutes later, she said she had discussed with her manager and they decided to support me. She advised me to pay the RM30 as stated in current bill. They would not replace my Astro Beyond's decoder and said that I could continue to use that decoder and sign up for the HD Service at any time. She assured me that I wouldn't have to pay the RM30 in subsequent bills as they would terminate the HD Service in the following month. She asked me for the particulars of the Indian girl but unfortunately, I couldn't furnish her any details as I had forgotten the date she called me and her name.

The Malay girl said Astro would investigate this case and take appropriate actions. This time, I troubled her by asking her how long did Astro need in the investigation. She said probably weeks or one month. I told her that I would like to know the results and Astro should explain and get me to know the results by the next bill. I urged her to tell me my handphone number as stated in her system in order to ensure that they would call me one day.

I was so bad, wasn't I? Astro already tolerated but I still insisted to trouble them providing me with explanations. Frankly speaking, I was really frustrated that time and I wanted to ensure that they took this case seriously and appropriate actions had been taken so that there would be no other victims in the future. This round, I was pretty happy that I won and I could protect my family's interest. Friends, please don't get the suppliers controlling us. They want our money and we've no reasons to obey them. Remember, we, the current generation is literate.

Goosebumps

Yo, here was the another book that I had just completed. For your information, I bought this story book in Standard Six. It was a long time already, wasn't it? There were two stories altogether in this story book and it was a Chinese version. Am I too bad? Frankly speaking, my English was absolutely terrible in my primary study. I bought it in a book fair organised in my primary school.

This book was written by R.L. Stine and the stories were 'Monster Blood' and 'Say Cheese and Die'. I managed to finish the first story some time ago. Since I was so free recently, I searched for this story book and re-read the book again. Goosebumps was the book that got numerous awards and it was the book that caught many children's interest. It was the best selling story book across the world before 'Harry Potter'.

The author was so great that I was fully attracted to reading the stories. The author was good in description and illustration. The way he wrote the story was what I was impressed the most. The readers were keen on reading the stories chapter after chapter. Indeed, it would be a non-stop reading as you were desperate to know what would happen next. Congratulation, Goosebumps was the first ever story book that impressed me and caught my attention and interest. I believe that, I'll find the full series one day and finish them up.
