Dr Wong

Well, today's topic is about my dedicated and most respected lecturer in TARc KL Main Campus, Dr Wong Pik Har.

As you may know, I disliked her initially because I thought she was stubborn and picky after hearing some rumours about her. Maybe Dr Amy left some bad impressions to me, hence I was not fancy on Drs. I know it's unfair to her, sorry. This continued even though she started to take over the subject from Ms Chang.

Then, in one of the special classes, her left hand started to pain. She asked E.S.H. for help in preparation and removal of the socket used for overhead projector and microphone's speaker. Since I was so close to E.S.H., I had no other option but to accompany him and help him out. Gradually, we became her official helper. We would arrived at her staff room 15 to 30 minutes earlier to help her carrying her bags and books.

Since that, my perception on her changed. We got to know each other better and communicated more. I could see her sacrifice, effort, commitment, caring and love. The way she taught us, guided us, punished us and advices were invaluable. Students became touched and willing to fight for her.

Every time we were in her staff room, she would told us about her plan and key performance indicators. She even consulted us before implementing her plan. Certainly, I knew that she wanted to hear real words, ergo I had never lied in front of her. I would talk to her, correct her mistakes on the spot mercilessly. She would accept if they were reasonable.

She's not similar to Dr Amy. She cared about her students. She would cry or upset when her students didn't perform well. Even if she was told that those students left in P4 Advanced Financial Management were just the residue, meaning that those clever, smart or top students had left for other option papers after knowing that a part-time lecturer would in charge, she still wanted to shape her 'diamonds'. However, we have the same motive, we want to prove to the world that we can do it! We want the one who despised us to keep his/her mouth shut!

She would insist to fetch us to lecture hall even if we declined since the DK 7 was near to the staff room. I think, E.S.H. and I were the ones who were in Dr Wong's car the most. Due to this, some students felt that we were 'polishing her shoes' but we were adamant on our position, we knew what were we doing.

She conducted extra class for us in order for us to catch up. Therefore, I still remembered the day when she finished all the syllabus. She was so excited that we managed to accomplish it. She gave gifts to those who scored well in her assessments. T.H.K. was one of them, congratulation. Other than those with excellent results or improvement, she also prepare a present to our option paper's representative, O.T.M.. He deserved that present since he was so dedicated and sacrificing everything for our sake as well. Definitely, a token of appreciation was given to E.S.H. and me for our help. As a result, E.S.H. and I returned a token of appreciation to her on the final day.

Most of the students were not dare to ask her questions, so did I. I was scolded for challenging the formula because she said we were not clever enough, we just borrowed the formula from mathematicians, hence we should not challenge the formula. I was the one who needed to know how the formula were derived from in order to master the formula. Since that, I was not dare to ask her anymore. Another factors were she wanted us to discuss among our group and do some online surveys before reaching her, the final resort.

The way she taught was special, she taught us the concept but not the method, hence some of my friends always confused with the formula or even didn't understand how the answers came from. Thanks God, I understood most of the answers and thus I became Dr Wong's personal consultant. My friends would consult me whenever they had problems.

Nevertheless, she was more than willing to teach those she liked patiently, for instance E.S.H. and I, O.T.M., T.H.K. and etc.. There was bias on this matter. However, I thought she wanted us to convey our doubts to the class. We worked as a team. For example, she called me twice since I was back to Penang. She asked me to post our discussion on Facebook's wall so that everybody was benefited.

For example, C.W.F. asked me a question last night. I was not sure about the answer even though my answer was right, hence I sms Dr Wong at about 9:34p.m., she didn't reply. I thought, she slept already. This morning, she called when I just woke up. Again, she was so dedicated and wanting me to convey the answer to whole world.

I felt extremely touched during her revision class. She spent a lot of time in finding different questions for us. Thus, I felt that I owed her something. I was not sure, I could feel that P4 students were studying in unity. The feeling was so special and the first in my TARc's time.

Well, P4 ACCA examination will be on on next Tuesday. I can't assure her to be the top of the world but at least, I promise that I'll try my best! For your information, I had finish inputting the syllabus but I always faced trouble when I practised the questions. I hope that I won't disappoint her and hopefully all the students pass the examination this round. God bless.
