Consumer's Right

Well, everything is settled!


Before I went back to my hometown, I already thought of settling my house's problem. One week after I came back to Penang, Streamyx's agent called me asking me to upgrade my Streamyx's package. They offered me Superspeed Me's plan to upgrade my existing plan to 1 Mbps with a cost of RM110 per month including telephone charges but we paid the original price in the first three months. Streamyx caught me because I was desperate to download animes and dramas. I agreed for the conditions.


It turned bad after the agent changed my modem. The speed became extremely slow! My sisters complained to me about this and they mentioned that the speed was even worse than the previous 512 kbps. I phoned to Telekom immediately for help. As usual, they just asked me to replug the wires and reconfigure the modem. I followed their advice but the things didn't get better.


Finally, they sent an agent to my house. The agent came in the morning. Everything was okay and the download speed even exceeded 1000 kbps. He didn't believe what I said. I told him that the speed at night was not more than 700 kbps. He even challenged me to call him when the speed was such low.


Alright, I challenged him back by telling him that I would print screen down as a proof. I did so almost everyday when the download speed's test was unsatisfactory. I printed two screens down immediately after the previous one so that Streamyx had no excuse to ask me reran the test. This was my style, once I took action, I wouldn't let the opponent had any excuse to counter-react!


I did it for almost two weeks. Then, I went to TM Point to make my complaint. Initially, I planned to see their manager, at least, their supervisor as what Jared did last time. However, I gave them a chance by taking the number waiting for the customer service.


The staff told me that she couldn't help me much but just to call to Telekom on the spot for me. She was nice and felt strange when I told her that the download speed was down only after nine o'clock at night. She felt so anxious when I answered the call. Yes, I lost my patient on that time. I queried the person in charge on the phone that what was the purpose to upgrade my previous package since the new one was worse than previous one!


The staff help me to do a report immediately and took my printed print screens for scanning. Before I went back, I met Aldy (or Eldy), he was with A.Y.Y.J.. I told them that, if things still remained the same, the next time I came would be seeing their manager.


The day after that, the speed's back to normal. I thought, they changed the port in my apartment since mine is an old apartment. Alright, Streamyx's thing was settled.


The next one would be Astro. For your information, my Astro remote control couldn't function. I mean I have to use the remote control near to the decoder, sometimes it comes out with different number as pressed. When we first installed the Astro, the agent came quite a number of times but they also had no idea regarding this problem, finally they relinquished. I called to Astro centre but they claimed that this was due to my new Sharp LCD television whose frequency was too strong, causing the frequency sent out from the remote control via infrared affected. They even argued that the Sharp should compromise with them by altering their design. Okay, I accepted that time.


However, I want to rebelled now since I pay for the Astro monthly and now two years had gone long time ago, hence it's time for Astro to devise a decoder coping with my Sharp LCD. Otherwise, I shall reserve the right to terminate the Astro's service.


Nonetheless, Astro seemed to know my intention, they called me offering me to change the latest Astro Beyond decoder to me before I went to trouble them but with a one-time payment of RM20. They said that Astro would collect all the old models and replace the Astro Beyond to us.


Today, the Astro's agent came and did the replacement. It's good. The size is smaller and my previous problem is resolved! I even can watch HD channel but I don't know how long will all these be sustained. Anyway, thank you.


In my opinion, I pay for the service, then I'm hoping to get the equivalent quality. If I don't get that, I'll protest until things're solved. I'll not tolerate suppliers taking unfair advantage on me. The next thing I want to fight for is the transfer rate of Streamyx. Even though the download speed exceeded 1000 kbps but the transfer rate doesn't exceed 140 kbps. For your information, our speed depends on the transfer rate but not the download speed. 140 kbps is not even reaching 20% of 1000 kbps, therefore why we need to pay such a low speed with such a high price since they quote RM110 for 1 Mbps but not 140 kbps. Nevertheless, they won't change if I'm the only one who protests. I need support!
